About the Role

The Backend Engineering Manager will lead the Core Engineering team, taking responsibility for the backend systems and infrastructure for the ProtoPie product. This role involves leading the team to develop stable and scalable backend APIs, configuring and operating AWS-based infrastructure, and building and operating data pipelines, thereby leading ProtoPie's backend technology. The manager will set technical direction and development priorities for product development, support the performance and growth of individual team members, and foster an efficient development culture and work style. The official position title upon hiring will be Head of Core Engineering, in accordance with company regulations.

Responsibilities

Set specific and achievable goals based on team members' responsibilities and capabilities, and lead and support the team to achieve these goals through continuous feedback and coaching.
Lead the team's core tasks, including backend API development for ProtoPie, AWS infrastructure configuration and operation, and data pipeline development and operation, and efficiently manage resources to maximize productivity.
Continuously improve the team's work style and development culture to build a collaborative and efficient development environment.
Lead the team's technical decision-making, guide system design, and improve development quality through regular code reviews.
Communicate regularly with executives and relevant departments to ensure team members understand the company's business goals, key projects, and company-wide updates.
Collaborate with designers, product owners, and engineers to design, develop, integrate, and manage innovative software solutions.
Establish and drive the technical vision and roadmap for AWS cloud infrastructure and backend systems, proactively responding to future requirements and evolving infrastructure.
Identify and share the latest development trends (e.g., cloud-native, DevOps, data engineering) with the team to enhance project technical standards, and provide advice and guidance to team members on technical issues and concerns.

Requirements

Over 8 years of software development experience (required: attach a career description or portfolio for projects undertaken to your resume).
Extensive experience in backend API development and architectural design.
Experience in configuring and operating infrastructure (DevOps) in a cloud environment such as AWS.
Over 2 years of experience in engineering people management and leadership as a team leader.
Experience in improving development processes and engineering productivity using AI-based development tools, LLMs, and automating code reviews/testing/documentation.
Excellent communication and interpersonal management skills.
Ability to solve complex problems based on a high level of technical understanding.
Ability to communicate fluently in English for business purposes.
