About the Role

The Genomic Variation and Disease Group seeks a postdoctoral scientist with a molecular biology background to study gene regulation and develop a platform for engineering patient-specific structural variants. This role involves using in vitro and/or in vivo models, CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing, high-throughput CRISPR screens, and single-cell technologies to investigate the molecular consequences of SVs impacting the noncoding genome. The lab is committed to a welcoming, supportive, and collaborative environment focused on cutting-edge science, offering extensive training, mentoring, and opportunities to collaborate, attend conferences, and publish.

Responsibilities

Work with group members and collaborators as well as independently on experimental design, data analysis, visualization, and interpretation
Prepare work for publication and grant submissions
Present at seminars and conferences as necessary
Contribute to the smooth running of the Group’s/Unit’s laboratories and facilities with other scientists, clinicians, technicians and students
Assist in the supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate research students and research assistants as required

Requirements

PhD (or equivalent) in Molecular Genetics or a closely related discipline
Background in the field of gene regulation and/or developmental genetics
Experience in mouse ES cell culture and common techniques in molecular biology
Experience in CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing and high-throughput CRISPR screens
Excellent written communication skills in English and the ability to write clearly for publication
Ability to conduct reproducible research
Ability to conduct a detailed review of recent literature
Ability to develop and apply new concepts
Creative approach to problem-solving
A keen interest in learning new skills
Excellent verbal communication skills in English and the ability to deal with a wide range of people
Ability to motivate others to produce a high standard of work
Ability to organise own work with minimal supervision

Salary/Compensations

£39,375 plus London allowance £3,913 & £1,472 per annum
Additional allowances comprises at £1,000 lump sum settlement allowance plus a yearly Training Allowance of £850 in the first year, paid in monthly instalments. The Training Allowance increases to £1,300 in year two, and £1,800 in the third year.
