About the Role

Commercial Rating and Underwriting (CRU) assesses and manages the risk of institutional exposures across all business units globally. CRU plays a critical role in determining credit ratings, providing underwriting for wholesale card and lending products, and ensuring compliance with global banking standards.

Responsibilities

  • Assess and monitor credit risk across a portfolio of large exposures in assigned region, industry, and business line to minimize loss and support profitable growth.
  • Conduct credit assessments for large exposures through fundamental credit analysis, including review of business, financial statements, key credit metrics, industry and country risk, and rating model outputs.
  • Underwrite larger credit programs across commercial services, understanding credit extension needs, relationship profitability, and program structures.
  • Interact with various constituents including sales, second line of defense, business unit risk partners, and credit administration.
  • Provide secondary review of decisions for smaller exposures and guidance to CRU Analysts.
  • Stay updated on corporate developments and market sentiment, and confidently discuss industry and market outlooks.

Requirements

  • At least 3-5 years of experience conducting credit analysis at a leading financial institution or rating agency.
  • Experience in commercial credit assessment and/or underwriting, including ability to underwrite and make decisions/recommendations on short-term credit lines, determine appropriate credit capacity, structure facilities, and apply risk mitigation techniques.
  • Knowledge of analyzing credit model outputs and identifying rationale for deviations.
  • Knowledge of public agency ratings and supporting analysis.
  • Ability to understand current macroeconomic trends and make recommendations to improve PD estimation based on the business cycle.
  • Ability to communicate succinct rationales for credit decisions both written and orally, including to non-financial audiences.
  • Desirable: CFA or another professional qualification in finance, accounting, or economics.
  • Desirable: Experience analyzing a range of industries in Europe.
