About the Role
We are looking for passionate designers to shape Monzo’s future, with a particular focus on web experiences to help people discover, explore, and choose Monzo. You will combine strong visual and interaction design with a data-informed mindset, using experimentation and customer insight to understand what works and continuously improve the experience.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design of high-quality web experiences that help new and existing customers discover the value Monzo can bring to their financial lives.
- Use quantitative and qualitative data to identify opportunities, understand customer behaviour and make informed design decisions.
- Turn customer and business problems into clear hypotheses, design experiments and use learnings to shape future actions.
- Bring exceptional visual and interaction craft to web experiences, creating work that is unmistakably Monzo while driving meaningful customer and commercial outcomes.
- Tackle complex and ambiguous design challenges, balancing customer needs, business goals and technical constraints to create simple, effective experiences.
- Define compelling product visions and direction, helping teams think beyond individual experiments towards a coherent long-term customer experience.
- Partner closely with Product, Engineering, Data and Research throughout the design process, bringing people together around customer problems and opportunities.
- Use AI to level-up parts of your design workflow, including ideation, analysis, prototyping, or shipping production code.
- Take a pragmatic approach to experimentation — moving quickly when learning is needed, while knowing when an experience requires a higher level of craft and polish.
- Act as a role model in Design, sharing work broadly, mentoring others, and contributing to the growth and success of the wider Design team.
Requirements
- Proven track record of designing high-quality web experiences, with a portfolio demonstrating strong visual and interaction design craft.
- Comfortable using data to inform design decisions, partnering with Data Scientists or Analysts to understand customer behaviour and measure impact.
- Ability to connect great customer experiences with measurable outcomes and understand how design contributes to wider product and commercial goals.
- Comfortable forming hypotheses, experimenting with different approaches and adapting thinking based on learning.
- Ability to balance speed and experimentation with a high bar for craft, knowing when to prototype quickly and when to invest in creating an exceptional final experience.
- Natural collaborator who can bring together Product, Engineering, Data, Research and other partners around complex customer problems.
- Ability to thrive in ambiguity and create clarity and direction when the answer isn’t immediately obvious.
- Comfortable thinking beyond an individual screen or experiment, connecting work across journeys and helping shape a longer-term vision.
- Role model who actively contributes to the growth of the Design team through mentoring, feedback, and sharing expertise.
- Excited about Monzo’s mission to make money work for everyone and the opportunity to help more people discover the value of Monzo.
