About the Role
KPMG Law's Tax Dispute Resolution and Controversy team seeks lawyers experienced in tax, tax law, and tax disputes to advise a broad range of clients on domestic and cross-border tax issues. This role offers the opportunity to be a key part of a growing team, resolving disputes with revenue authorities and developing advocacy skills.
Responsibilities
- Advise clients in preparing for and resolving disputes with the ATO, AusIndustry, and State/Territory revenue authorities.
- Manage complex reviews and audits.
- Prepare objections and brief counsel.
- Engage in alternative dispute resolution processes.
- Handle tax litigation in State and Federal tribunals and courts.
- Develop written and oral advocacy and dispute resolution skills.
- Provide legal advice, including taxation law and administrative law.
- Collaborate with internal and international KPMG specialists.
- Work across all domestic jurisdictions with national team members.
Requirements
- Over 8 years of experience in a Big 4 professional services firm, law firm, or Government.
- Previous experience in corporate tax, international tax, tax law, and/or tax dispute resolution and controversy.
- Prior Big 4 experience is viewed favorably.
- Ability to quickly establish a high level of stakeholder engagement.
- Ability to hold the role of an advisor to the business and be an expert on topical tax law areas.
- Ability to integrate information from various sources and consider broader impacts.
- Strong interpersonal, influencing, and project management skills.
- Ability to motivate and work as part of a high-performing team.
- Ability to enable career progression for high-potential people.
- Ability to lead on people initiatives and role model values.
- An honest and ethical approach to business.
- Australian and/or other Commonwealth country legal experience.
