About the Role

As a Senior Engineer at Vivid Machines, you will work on challenging problems across our software stack, designing and developing robust and scalable solutions for embedded systems, cloud, and mobile. You will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to create an amazing product and solve critical global food security challenges.

Responsibilities

Own the capture and inference pipeline, ensuring multi-camera video processing from sensor to model to storage without data loss.
Optimize heavy vision models for real-time performance on resource-constrained hardware with fixed power and thermal budgets.
Bring up cameras and sensors at the driver level.
Transform sensor data into geometry by fusing vision, position, and motion data for accurate per-tree geolocation.
Develop systems for reproducing field problems at a desk, including scan replay, synthetic data generation, on-device CI, and regression testing.
Proactively identify and address system issues such as frame drops, latency, thermal and power headroom, sensor health, and storage.
Contribute to the development of the next-generation platform from hardware definition to product shipment, influencing hardware decisions.
Ship products to a remote fleet with intermittent connectivity.

Requirements

Strong systems programming ability in a compiled language (C, C++, or Rust).
Comfort working at the boundary between application code, drivers, and hardware.
Experience building real-time streaming media or vision pipelines, including buffer management, latency, throughput, backpressure, and zero-copy memory.
Proficiency in profiling code rather than guessing performance bottlenecks.
Hands-on experience deploying vision models to edge devices.
Experience with low-level camera and sensor interaction, including image sensors, capture drivers, timing, synchronization, and I2C/SPI/GPIO peripherals.
Proficiency with Linux as an embedded platform, including kernel customization, debugging, containers, and cross-compilation.
Experience making distributed or embedded systems observable through metrics and logs from remote devices.
Ability to build dashboards and reports for system monitoring and track accuracy/quality over time.
Self-direction and the ability to define project scope and completion criteria.
