About the Role
Forward Deployed Strategists own the technical direction of Chalk’s integrations, determining what gets built, in what order, and ensuring its viability. This role involves advising customer engineering teams on architecture, designing solutions on Chalk, and executing Proofs of Concept (POCs). You will partner with sales, delivery, account management, and support teams, acting as the technical authority on customer accounts. The role requires deep architectural understanding and judgment, with a focus on production infrastructure and customer systems.
Responsibilities
- Run technical discovery to understand customer systems and challenges.
- Advise on customer architecture and migration plans, identifying potential issues and prioritizing tasks.
- Design solutions on Chalk, ensuring correctness, low latency, and cost-effectiveness.
- Design agentic solutions on Chalk, defining agent capabilities, evaluation, and safe execution within customer environments.
- Design, scope, and execute focused POCs, defining success criteria and managing scope.
- Engage with customer principal engineers and partner with sales during decision-making processes.
- Identify and prioritize future work, assessing its suitability for Chalk.
- Break down work into manageable projects with clear ownership and timelines.
- Collaborate with account management and support to maintain technical coherence for live accounts.
- Provide feedback from the field to product and engineering teams to drive improvements.
Requirements
- Significant depth in production infrastructure and understanding of how live systems fail.
- Proven experience advising engineering teams on systems not built by you, with your advice being adopted.
- Strong technical judgment and the ability to defend system design opinions.
- Experience scoping effective POCs that prove specific points and declining unsuitable ones.
- Proficiency in Python and SQL for building prototypes and reference implementations.
- Ability to read customer codebases and engage in technical discussions.
- Willingness to provide direct and potentially unwelcome feedback to customers regarding their plans.
- Ability to work effectively within a cross-functional team, earning trust from sales, delivery, account management, and support.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, problem-solving, storytelling, and analytical skills.
