About the Role
Zipline is seeking an exceptional Test Maintenance Engineering Lead (Senior Manager/Director level) to build and oversee a multi-state organization of maintenance technicians. This role is critical for bridging hardware testing environments and commercial operations, ensuring proactive issue resolution and safeguarding commercial success through extreme accountability and rigorous standards.
Responsibilities
- Build and scale a world-class maintenance engineering organization across multiple states and sites.
- Set clear expectations and drive accountability within the team.
- Act as a hands-on technical leader, performing maintenance tasks alongside technicians.
- Uphold the highest standards of safety, precision, and quality, representative of aircraft maintenance.
- Proactively identify, escalate, and help resolve technical and systematic challenges.
- Prevent process and quality gaps from impacting the commercial organization.
- Collaborate effectively with Engineering, Quality, Operations, and Commercial teams.
- Foster a humble, ego-free team culture focused on continuous improvement and support.
Requirements
- 10-15+ years of progressive technical experience in aviation maintenance, test engineering, hardware operations, or aerospace manufacturing.
- 5-8+ years of direct people management experience, including scaling distributed teams.
- Technical depth to troubleshoot and execute maintenance tasks firsthand.
- Deep expertise in root cause analysis, defect containment, and process engineering.
- Proven track record of building systems to prevent downstream operational escapes.
- Exceptional communication skills for navigating complex organizational dynamics and building consensus.
- Ability to interface professionally with technical engineering teams and commercial leaders.
- An ego-free approach to leadership.
- An Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) license, equivalent military aviation experience, or an aerospace engineering degree with hands-on mechanical experience is highly preferred.
