About the Role

This role is critical in providing pre-operative and post-operative physiotherapy assessments and treatments for patients undergoing same-day hip and knee surgeries, as well as managing chronic pain patients. The position involves both individual and group-based therapy sessions, contributing to the hospital's mission of revolutionizing healthcare through innovation and patient-centered care.

Responsibilities

Perform pre-operative physiotherapy assessments for patients undergoing same-day total hip and total knee surgery.
Provide post-operative mobilization and education for patients undergoing same-day total hip and total knee surgery.
Assess and create long and short-term treatment plans for chronic pain patients.
Deliver individual one-on-one physiotherapy sessions, both in-person and virtually.
Conduct group-based exercise and rehabilitation programming.
Participate in and facilitate group-based programming, including therapeutic exercise and active rehabilitation.
Maintain current and accurate clinical records according to the standards set by the College of Physiotherapists.
Document assessment results, goals, treatment, and client progress.
Provide Pain Neuroscience Education (PNE) and support patients in understanding persistent pain and management strategies.
Perform pelvic health assessments and interventions for all individuals, including internal pelvic examinations where clinically indicated.
Collaborate with other members of the health care team as needed.
Communicate pertinent information and recommendations to clients/care providers and provide education regarding treatment strategies.
Educate team members on discipline-specific clinical care.
Assist with program development activities, including liaising with interprofessional team members and partner sites.
Actively participate in program research activities, as required.
Act as a role model and champion for safety, integrating best practices into daily activities to foster safe and exemplary care.

Requirements

Must reside and be legally eligible to work in Ontario.
Master’s degree in Physiotherapy or equivalent required.
Registered and in good standing with the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario.
Actively rostered for the controlled act of performing internal pelvic examinations.
Clinical experience working with chronic pain, with experience in chronic pelvic pain and/or pelvic health physiotherapy strongly preferred.
Completion of Pelvic Health Solutions Level 1, 2 and 3, or equivalent pelvic health education and training, preferred.
Experience with pelvic floor assessment and treatment is an asset.
Ability to provide care effectively in both in-person and virtual formats.
Experience working in an inter-professional team in a hospital setting preferred.
Experience working in a functional pain program including the utilization of physical and psychosocial interventions preferred.
Experience delivering group-based exercise programming and/or chronic pain rehabilitation is preferred.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated effectiveness as an interdisciplinary team member.
Demonstrated problem-solving skills, good judgment, and flexibility.
Proven attendance and punctuality.
Professional behavior and communication that meets the standards of the professional regulatory college or association and the standards of Women’s College Hospital.
Plays a critical role in acting as an advocate for safety and will demonstrate principles, practices and processes that will optimize a safe environment for all.
