About the Role
Lead the design process between design firms and internal teams to ensure optimized, efficient, and cost-effective construction designs during pursuits or post-award.
Responsibilities
- Review and evaluate design drawings for alternative build pursuits to ensure constructability, cost efficiency, and design optimization.
- Engage Technical Services, construction management, and estimating departments for technical input and risk mitigation.
- Provide technical insight in meetings to ensure unified understanding of design drawings and budget implications.
- Include external designers, construction managers, and support engineering teams in weekly taskforce planning meetings.
- Identify design risks and optimization opportunities with external design firm and internal teams.
- Recommend, track, and document contract change orders related to construction design.
- Submit design progress and cost reporting to the project management team.
- Provide input on material quantities and design strategies to lower project cost and mitigate risks.
- Ensure accurate, complete, and timely submission of all design packages and coordinate split packages.
- Track permits and public information sessions required of the external design firm.
- Attend public information sessions as needed.
- Participate in technical reviews and design presentations with the project Owner.
- Assist with change order approvals.
- Submit monthly project status reporting to design and operations leadership.
- Maintain knowledge of company values and strategic plan.
- Support published corporate policies.
- Perform additional assignments as directed by management.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering required.
- 10+ years of experience in the construction industry, design engineering, estimating, or related fields.
- Experience managing construction design teams and design firms.
- Experience working with alternative design pursuits (Design Build, P3, etc.) required.
- Experience working with Procore, Primavera P6, AutoCAD, and Bluebeam required.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge and skill in technical writing for efficient and concise document control and presentations.
- Strong knowledge of construction engineering principles and regulatory codes required.
