About the Role

Join Whatnot as a Category Lead and take charge of scaling a category on the platform. You will define the strategic vision for your category and collaborate with cross-functional teams to achieve it, manage a team, and drive category growth.

Responsibilities

  • Define the strategic vision of your category.
  • Map the market, analyze data, and engage with sellers and buyers to build a perspective on category scaling.
  • Develop an action plan for addressing key challenges and opportunities within the category.
  • Manage a team of dotted line reports in account management, sales, and marketing.
  • Onboard and grow sellers, activate influencers, and run community events.
  • Develop and mentor team members to take ownership of key initiatives.
  • Source, execute, and manage high-priority partnerships in the category.
  • Define and monitor key success metrics using data insights to prioritize focus areas.
  • Identify category unlocks and collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement solutions that drive step-change growth.
  • Propose and execute tests with executives to adapt to evolving category needs.
  • Act as an advocate for the mission by building relationships with top sellers and buyers.
  • Ensure the product meets the needs of sellers and buyers.
  • Guide the team to understand core business and product components for effective seller pitching and community growth.
  • Use Whatnot as both a buyer and a seller as part of the job.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in a fast-paced, client-facing role in high-output environments (e.g., Strategy Consulting, Venture Capital, Private Equity, or partnerships at a fast-paced tech company).
  • Passion for Whatnot's mission and a relentless drive to improve user experiences.
  • Ability to operate as a player/coach and produce results in ambiguous environments.
  • Scrappiness and willingness to take on any task.
  • Fluent English.
  • Deep understanding of the UK market.
  • World-class leadership experience with managing and developing a team.
  • Deep analytical skills and comfort with data manipulation for business insights.
