About the Role
We are seeking a Discovery Program Leader (DPL) to represent Nonclinical Drug Safety (NDS) on discovery research teams, focusing on immunology and oncology. This role requires leadership, collaboration, and independence to discover novel medicines. The DPL defines and oversees the NDS strategy from Target Identification through to the approval of First-In-Human enabling GLP toxicity studies, including risk assessments and de-risking strategies. The role also involves collaborating with NDS staff to execute studies and potentially leading early development teams.
Responsibilities
- Represent NDS on discovery teams and participate in therapeutic area discovery governance committee reviews.
- Promote and facilitate creative thinking from target identification/validation through lead optimization in various therapeutic areas.
- Act as a "drug creator" and promoter of innovative thinking, influencing cross-site and functional groups.
- Identify and assess potential risks associated with therapeutic targets or development candidates.
- Lead early development teams, informing on preclinical studies to support product development.
Requirements
- PhD in a relevant field, DVM, MD degree or equivalent.
- Minimum 8+ years of demonstrated pharmaceutical industry experience as a non-clinical safety scientist or representative to cross-functional teams.
- Demonstrated ability to navigate cross-functional lines and drive team decision-making in a matrix structure.
- Highly dedicated, motivated, resilient, and flexible with creative problem-solving skills.
- Excellent team player capable of collaborating with diverse team members.
- Excellent interpersonal skills to establish good working relationships.
- Excellent communicator who knows when and how to speak up and raise issues appropriately.
