About the Role
As a Senior Accountant at Kitware, you will take ownership of complex accounting tasks, focusing on maintaining financial accuracy and regulatory compliance. This role involves hands-on accounting, multi-state tax compliance, technical research, and process improvement, with the opportunity to strengthen processes and policies for a growing R&D software company.
Responsibilities
- Perform monthly account reconciliations and support timely, accurate financial reporting.
- Prepare and file state and local tax filings, including sales and use tax, gross receipts tax, and other indirect taxes across multiple jurisdictions.
- Conduct technical accounting and tax research to ensure compliance with evolving state regulations and government requirements.
- Draft, review, and update accounting policies and procedures to align with GAAP and applicable government regulations.
- Develop a strong understanding of adjacent finance functions, including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Payroll, and Customer Cost Proposals.
- Identify and recommend opportunities to improve processes and increase efficiency.
- Provide backup support across finance functions during peak periods, absences, or other business needs.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure financial controls and policies are applied consistently.
- Translate regulatory and technical requirements into clear, actionable internal processes.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Strong foundation in GAAP and general accounting principles.
- Experience with multi-state tax compliance, including sales and use tax, gross receipts tax, or similar requirements.
- Demonstrated ability to independently research complex accounting or tax issues and implement solutions.
- Experience developing or improving policies and procedures in a regulated environment.
- High level of attention to detail, organization, and accountability.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively.
- Strong communication skills, including the ability to translate technical guidance into practical application.
- Must be a U.S. person (citizen, permanent resident, asylee, or refugee) due to contractual requirements.
