About the Role
The Youth Program Assistant will lead daily activities and engage youth in education-centered after-school and summer youth programs, including homework assistance, fitness, reading, and enrichment. Responsibilities will be carried out in a predominantly in-person setting with virtual programming if necessary.
Responsibilities
- Prepare the learning environment, lessons, and necessary supplies for program activities in an in-person and virtual setting.
- Plan and lead meaningful activities including arts and crafts, reading, character development, physical fitness, and nutrition in a physical and online setting.
- Focus on STEM/STEAM, coding, robotics, and 3D printing, and academic support in mathematics.
- Assist children with homework and academic enrichment activities.
- Ensure the safety and supervision of students.
- Promote an inclusive, welcoming, and respectful environment.
- Maintain accurate program documentation.
- Maintain a clean and organized classroom and common areas.
- Maintain a safe working environment for students.
Requirements
- Available to work Monday through Friday from 2:30-6:15, with more hours as needed.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Must be eligible to work in the United States and pass a criminal background check with a Fingerprint check.
- Proficiency in basic computer skills (navigating websites, email suites, search engines).
- Prior use of, or willingness to learn, online educational tools (Google Classrooms, Zoom, ClassDojo).
- Flexibility to meet changing work needs and demands.
- Ability to lead fitness activities and supervise/participate in sports.
- Ability to organize activities and make sound judgments.
- Ability to interact with a range of age groups.
- Ability to work in all types of climate atmospheres and wet environments, both inside and outside.
- Occupational exposure to blood or other potentially infectious materials can be expected.
- May be asked to clean up bodily fluids with appropriate training and personal protective equipment provided.
- Prolonged periods of standing and frequent bending.
- Willing and able to lift small children, sit/stand or play for 2 hours at a time.
