About the Role

The Energy Services team is focused on enabling thoughtful homes to work together for 100% clean and affordable energy. You will be a key contributor in bringing this vision to life, helping millions of users use cleaner and cheaper energy and keeping energy costs low for homeowners across North America. The eco+ product revolutionizes how the grid responds to peak demand using Machine Learning models to optimize comfort and energy savings. You will join a small but growing team, helping to shape a culture that empowers the team to make great technical decisions, drive strategic choices, improve processes, and mentor others. You will work closely with Product and other engineering teams to shape the roadmap and improve the platform, with occasional collaboration with marketing and sales partners.

Responsibilities

Design, build, and evolve high-load, highly concurrent backend services that directly support ecobee’s products and business goals, including the Energy Control Platform (ECP).
Use modern technologies to solve complex technical challenges at scale, with the flexibility to evaluate and adopt new tools when they meaningfully improve outcomes.
Contribute to and help shape ecobee’s engineering culture by sharing knowledge, learning from peers, and applying thoughtful engineering practices.
Influence technical direction and decision-making, with your ideas and contributions having a measurable impact on the company’s systems and objectives.
Work closely with Product and other engineering teams to shape the roadmap and consistently improve the platform.
Participate in a healthy on-call rotation.
Provide mentorship, support, and guidance to the team, helping focus efforts on the highest-impact work and supporting overall team well-being.

Requirements

Strong Go experience.
Comfortable designing, implementing, and debugging microservices on Google Cloud Platform and/or AWS.
Experience with both NoSQL and relational databases.
Leverage AI assisted development to move faster, improve quality and navigate unfamiliar codebase.
Continuously challenge yourself and the status quo, seeking better ways to solve complex problems.
Comfortable and confident in systems design and architecture.
Value the craft of software development and actively practice automated testing, CI/CD, and sound design patterns.
Understand the full lifecycle of getting code to production, from review and merge through deployment in the cloud or a data center.
Ability to identify opportunities to improve reliability and delivery.
Open to learning new technologies when it helps you deliver solutions more effectively.
Thrive on large, complex challenges and comfortable working with issues of scale, concurrency, large data sets, security, redundancy, and failover.
Care deeply about system stability and customer experience.
Work with metrics.
Build robust, resilient systems.
Hands-on experience using AI tools (e.g., Claude, Copilot, or similar) in real development workflows.
Ability to validate AI output through testing, code review, and incremental rollout.
Interest in turning AI usage into repeatable team leverage.
Must complete a background check.
