About the Role

As the backbone of Canada’s financial ecosystem, Interac facilitates millions of transactions daily. The Data Governance, Lead role will report to the Leader, D&A Strategy and Advisory.

Responsibilities

Lead the development, implementation, and continuous enhancement of enterprise data governance frameworks, policies, standards, and operating practices.
Establish and monitor key performance and risk indicators, delivering insights and reporting that assess program maturity, compliance, data quality, and governance effectiveness.
Oversee enterprise metadata management, data lineage, and data catalog capabilities.
Drive enterprise data quality initiatives by partnering with stakeholders to establish controls, monitor issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement remediation strategies.
Lead data retention and lifecycle management activities, ensuring governance practices meet legal, regulatory, privacy, and risk management requirements.
Partner with analytics, technology, legal, risk, compliance, and business teams to embed governance principles into projects, processes, and decision-making.
Act as a trusted advisor on data governance, helping stakeholders balance business objectives with governance, compliance, and risk considerations.
Champion organizational awareness and adoption of data governance through communication, education, change management, and stakeholder engagement.
Mentor and coach junior team members, providing guidance, knowledge sharing, and developmental support.

Requirements

University degree in Business Administration, Engineering, Information Management, or a related field.
5+ years of experience in Data Governance, Data Management, Risk, or Compliance, with increasing responsibility.
Hands-on experience with data governance or metadata management tools (e.g., Alation, DQLabs, Cyera, Collibra).
Independent, self-driven.
Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills.
Highly proficient with Microsoft Excel and MS Office.
Ability to adapt to evolving business needs and drive continuous improvement.
Excellent communication skills, capable of translating technical concepts for non-technical audiences.
Detail-oriented, organized, and proactive, with a strong sense of ownership and accountability.
Eligibility to work for Interac Corp. in Canada in a full-time capacity.
Successful candidates will be required to complete background checks, which may include Canadian Criminal Credit Check, Canadian ID Cross-Check, Public Safety Verification, 5-year Employment Verification, Education Verification, Credit Check, and Social Media Check.
