About the Role
FSRA is a financial services regulator dedicated to ensuring financial safety, fairness, and choice for Ontarians. This role involves reviewing and analyzing license and registration applications to authorize approval or recommend denial, while also providing information, advisory, consultation, and training services to applicants.
Responsibilities
- Review and analyze license and registration applications from financial services intermediaries to identify issues, assess compliance, and approve or recommend denial.
- Conduct research and analysis on identified issues, preparing reports on policy, compliance, risk management, and enforcement.
- Participate in research and analysis of potential legal actions and act as an expert witness.
- Analyze non-standard Errors and Omissions Insurance (E&O) and Continuing Education (CE) issues, negotiate settlements, and monitor compliance.
- Research and determine responses for Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act requests.
- Participate in the review and analysis of licensing and registration procedures and systems.
- Provide information and advisory services to applicants to facilitate compliance with FSRA requirements.
- Offer advice and guidance on licensing and registration requirements, processes, and interpretation of legislation and policies.
- Develop and present seminar and training presentations to stakeholders and represent FSRA at conferences.
- Conduct field audits of life insurance agents.
- Perform suitability assessments for mortgage agent and broker licensing applications.
- Collaborate with team members on projects.
- Communicate with licensing applicants via telephone.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Degree in business administration, public policy, or a related field, and/or related experience.
- Minimum of 3 years of related experience, preferably in regulatory licensing and approvals.
- Experience in the mortgage sector is considered an asset.
- Knowledge of legislation administered by FSRA.
- Knowledge of current issues and trends in financial services licensing, registration, and enforcement.
- Knowledge of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA).
- Understanding of risk control models, analytical methods, and compliance measures.
- Demonstrated skills in interpreting and applying legislation/policies within a regulatory environment.
- Analytical and problem-solving skills.
