About the Role
Football Beyond Borders (FBB) is seeking a Senior Philanthropy Manager to grow long-term, flexible, and sustainable funding. This role is crucial for developing relationships with major donors, turning existing supporters into a sustainable income stream, and working closely with senior leadership on significant fundraising efforts. You will shape creative donor experiences and fundraising events, taking ownership of a growing area of fundraising.
Responsibilities
- Develop and deliver a clear philanthropy strategy and annual income plan, focusing on significant personal giving, long-term relationships, repeat gifts, and multi-year support.
- Build a credible route towards an annual philanthropy income ambition of around £600,000.
- Take ownership of FBB’s existing major donor portfolio and warm pipeline.
- Identify and qualify new prospects and ensure priority relationships are tracked with clear next steps and senior involvement.
- Build thoughtful relationships with donors, understand their motivations, and create clear plans for cultivation, asks, and stewardship.
- Shape and make significant asks, sometimes independently and sometimes with senior colleagues.
- Lead a small number of high-value cultivation, stewardship, and fundraising events.
- Use Salesforce as the source of truth for major donor relationships and opportunities, ensuring pipeline stages, values, forecasts, and next actions are clear and accurate.
- Provide simple, useful reporting to the Head of External Relations, senior leadership, and the Development Committee.
- Work closely with colleagues leading Trusts & Foundations and Commercial Partnerships for coordinated relationships and income.
- Carry out appropriate donor due diligence, handle sensitive information carefully, and ensure donor engagement with schools and young people is safe and appropriate.
- Balance ambitious fundraising with FBB’s mission, independence, and reputation.
Requirements
- Experience securing significant gifts from individuals, or comparable experience developing high-value relationships.
- Managed a portfolio of major donors, prospects, or high-value clients.
- Ability to build and progress a pipeline rather than simply maintain existing relationships.
- Ability to develop thoughtful cultivation, ask, and stewardship plans.
- Confidence in shaping and making significant asks.
- Ability to build strong relationships with senior and influential people while remaining warm and grounded.
- Highly organised with attention to detail and ability to follow through.
- Ability to work independently while knowing when to bring others in.
- Discipline in using CRM systems and forecasting.
- Clear and confident communication in writing and in person.
- Good judgment, discretion, and a genuine commitment to FBB’s mission.
- Experience securing unrestricted or multi-year funding (desirable).
- Experience working with Development Committees or family offices (desirable).
- Experience using Salesforce (desirable).
- Experience delivering high-value cultivation and fundraising events (desirable).
- Willingness to undergo an Enhanced DBS check, appropriate references, and relevant safeguarding checks and training.
