About the Role
The Direct Support Professional provides supervision and guidance to individuals with disabilities residing in a group home, assisting with personal care, medication management, and crisis intervention.
Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with agency policies, procedures, 6100 and 6400 regulations, and ODP requirements.
- Implement Individual Service Plans (ISPs) and document outcomes.
- Complete at least 24 hours of training annually.
- Attend and participate in staff meetings.
- Assist with personal care tasks including brushing teeth, toileting, bathing, dressing, and feeding.
- Act as a positive role model and advocate for individuals.
- Facilitate community integration and support for individuals.
- Perform housekeeping duties such as vacuuming, shopping, laundry, and mopping.
- Provide support and problem-solving techniques.
- Administer medications and maintain Medication Administration Certification.
- Identify and report work safety issues and injuries.
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards.
- Encourage independence and teach daily living skills.
- Respect individual choices.
- Complete required documentation in the agency's electronic health record.
- Assist with emotional issues, providing support, education, and solutions.
- Report incidents according to the Incident Management Bulletin.
- Use positive and respectful language.
- Utilize and model the everyday life philosophy.
- Perform related tasks as assigned by the supervisor.
Requirements
- Must have a valid driver's license.
- Must have a high school diploma or GED equivalent or experience in the field.
- Must have no criminal record.
- Must be a U.S. citizen.
- Must be able to physically lift 40-100 pounds unassisted.
- Must be able to physically lift 100 pounds or more assisted.
- Must be able to reach above head and below knees.
- Must be able to endure repetitive motions with right and left hands.
- Must be able to reach out to pull and push a wheelchair.
- Must be able to make twisting and bending motions at the waist.
- Must have good reaction response to protect personal space.
- Required to get a pre-employment physical.
- Required to get a physical with a mantoux TB test upon hire.
