About the Role
The Supported Employment Specialist provides individualized employment services to residents facing complex barriers, helping them build skills, stay motivated, and obtain and maintain employment. This role involves training, job development, placement support, coaching, and ongoing resident support within supportive housing communities, utilizing a person-centered, strengths-based approach to promote resident choice and independence.
Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive employment-readiness training and support, including interview preparation, resume writing, job skills, computer literacy, and online job-search platforms.
- Develop job referrals, assist residents with applications, facilitate job placements, and support relevant training opportunities.
- Support residents facing employment barriers by training, coaching, and providing hands-on support in assigned positions.
- Periodically provide coverage for Supported Employment positions, including food pantry item handling and distribution.
- Maintain and develop collaborative partnerships with community organizations and employers to secure employment opportunities.
- Communicate ongoing with residents to identify employment needs and provide resident-driven services.
- Collaborate with the onsite resident services team to support residents in achieving their goals.
- Document services and resident interactions in compliance with grant requirements and FC documentation standards.
- Update and maintain employment consultation records, job search logs, resumes, and other program documentation.
- Foster professional relationships with residents through respectful, kind, and accessible interactions.
Requirements
- At least one year of experience in Supported Employment, Job Development, Workforce Development, vocational rehabilitation, or a related field.
- Demonstrated patience, flexibility, and understanding when working with individuals facing multiple and complex barriers to employment.
- Strong computer and technical skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office products, web navigation, and online job-search platforms.
- Ability to demonstrate initiative, exercise sound judgment, work independently, and develop creative solutions.
- Valid Texas Driver’s License, current vehicle registration, and a good driving record.
- Must have reliable access to a vehicle and be able to drive throughout the Austin area.
- Ability to lift and carry 25–50 pounds repeatedly and perform physical tasks associated with supporting Supported Employment positions.
