About the Role
As a Video Editor (m/f/d), you will be responsible for the complete film production, from shooting to the final edited clip. You will edit interviews for YouTube, website/app, and social media with technical precision and an understanding of what works online. You will approach editing from a journalistic perspective, identifying key moments in conversations rather than just technical editing. You will collaborate closely with the Head of Video and the respective Social Media Editor to ensure each topic has its best possible presentation. Prospectively, you will also take on your own formats, from the initial filming idea to the final edit.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for the complete film production, from shooting to the final edited clip.
- Shoot and edit interviews for YouTube, website/app, and social media.
- Approach editing from a journalistic perspective, identifying key moments.
- Collaborate closely with the Head of Video and Social Media Editor.
- Prospectively take on own formats, from idea to final edit.
Requirements
- Proficient with common editing software, ideally DaVinci Resolve, or willing to learn quickly (editing, color correction, audio mix, subtitles).
- Basic knowledge of motion graphics/lower thirds (After Effects or Canva).
- Sense for design in thumbnails and covers (Figma or Canva).
- Filming competence: camera (Blackmagic, Sony, Canon), iPhone, lighting.
- Ability to extract 3-5 standalone moments from a 45-minute interview.
- Understanding of the different attention curves for YouTube Shorts, Reels, and TikTok.
- Several years of journalistic experience, a journalism degree, or a traineeship is advantageous.
- Great enthusiasm for online journalism and identification with independent, relevant journalism.
- Organized work style with good time management, even under pressure.
- Willingness to work in a dynamic environment, including on our media ship and at live events.
- Proactive initiative, capable of working independently and collaboratively.
