About the Role
The Major Gifts Officer identifies, develops, manages, and grows strategic relationships with existing major donors and prospects, aiming to secure funding for MSF-USA. This role involves creating cultivation, stewardship, and solicitation plans for a portfolio of approximately 150 individuals giving over $25,000 annually, requiring close collaboration with MSF personnel to develop proposals aligned with donor preferences and MSF priorities.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and deliver the organization's account management strategy.
- Personally manage relationships with highly strategic donors.
- Pursue strategic opportunities to create long-term value for the movement by cultivating partnerships or identifying and developing new geographies, markets, or donors.
- Build trust and loyalty with potential donors by updating them on activities and developing long-term relationships with corporations or foundations.
- Develop brand positioning based on the brand strategy and implement brand plans.
- Develop and implement a donor contact plan to engage, renew, and upgrade existing donors.
- Develop donor-specific solicitation plans that center donor communication preferences and funding interests.
- Act as the first point of contact for donor queries and complaints, resolving them or referring complex issues.
- Provide donor-centric service for a positive donor experience.
- Develop and implement a donor engagement plan to identify and build relationships with prospective donors.
- Employ creative outreach strategies, organizational updates, and special engagement opportunities for prospects.
- Design and present compelling proposals tailored to donors’ interests and aligned with MSF priority initiatives.
- Ensure proposals clearly articulate the impact of donor contributions.
- Develop and execute personalized stewardship plans to ensure donors feel valued and informed.
- Provide timely and accurate updates, reports, and acknowledgments to major donors.
- Maintain accurate, comprehensive, and up-to-date donor records in the Salesforce CRM database.
- Track all donor interactions and engagement activities to ensure data integrity.
- Assist in the planning and execution of regional events designed to cultivate and steward major donors.
- Leverage events to deepen donor relationships, showcase MSF’s work, and inspire greater investment.
Requirements
- Minimum three years of development experience, preferably in Major Gifts or high-value partnerships.
- Minimum three years of experience in portfolio management with high-value donors.
- Experience with and knowledge of donor databases and contacts management, preferably Salesforce NPSP.
- Knowledge about unique and region-specific philanthropic trends related to their portfolio.
- Knowledge and interest in international affairs and humanitarian issues.
- Ability to travel extensively.
- No supervisory responsibility.
