About the Role

QRT's FPGA team builds ultra-low-latency hardware for trading systems, implementing custom logic on FPGA devices to process market data and execute orders with precise control over latency and throughput. This role offers a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of hardware and software, contributing to real projects and learning from experienced professionals.

Responsibilities

  • Build production FPGA systems, contributing to the design, development, and optimization of FPGA-based platforms used in live trading.
  • Work across hardware and software using SystemVerilog, C++, and Python to build, test, and refine high-performance, low-latency systems.
  • Develop and verify new FPGA functionality to improve market data processing and order execution, including building necessary verification tests.
  • Integrate FPGA components with QRT's broader trading infrastructure in collaboration with hardware and software engineers.
  • Analyze performance by debugging and profiling designs, investigating latency, resource utilization, and other constraints for improvements.
  • Gain hands-on experience with modern FPGA technology, development tools, and verification workflows used in low-latency trading.
  • Contribute to research and development efforts aimed at enhancing the performance and capabilities of FPGA systems.

Requirements

  • Interest in technology, with exploration through software or hardware projects (academic, personal, or hobby-based).
  • Experience or coursework using an HDL such as SystemVerilog, Verilog, or VHDL.
  • Experience with C++ and/or Python.
  • Understanding of digital logic design, computer architecture, and high-speed interfaces.
  • Familiarity with FPGA development toolchains like Xilinx Vivado or Intel Quartus is useful, but not essential.
  • Ability to reason through technical problems methodically, troubleshoot designs, and consider trade-offs between performance, resource utilization, and power efficiency.
  • Curious, proactive mindset, comfortable asking questions and seeking to understand systems more deeply.
  • Self-motivated, thoughtful approach, and comfortable taking ownership of problems.
