About the Role
Interns at Qube Research & Technologies (QRT) will contribute to real projects, gaining meaningful experience by working alongside engineers, researchers, and traders on live problems. The environment is technical, collaborative, and demanding, offering opportunities to ask questions, test ideas, and take ownership. Strong performance may lead to consideration for a full-time graduate role.
Responsibilities
- Help build the systems, platforms, and tools behind QRT’s research, trading, and investment activities.
- Work alongside experienced engineers, quantitative developers, researchers, and traders.
- Contribute to production technology and solve problems where performance, reliability, and good engineering judgment matter.
- Understand technical problems, make sensible engineering choices, and build useful solutions.
- Build tools combining static analysis and large language models to identify issues in public APIs.
- Extend Exchange Simulators to support market orders, time-in-force instructions, and algorithmic orders.
- Extend risk data platforms to support trading in new trade types.
- Create lightweight trading interfaces with order entry, live market and position views, and clear visualization of trading activity.
- Build high-performance C++ systems for real-time trading, contributing to low-latency infrastructure and execution technology.
- Develop platforms for quantitative research, including machine learning systems and data pipelines.
- Design tools that simplify workflows, improve access to data, and make complex information easier to understand through effective visualization.
Requirements
- Penultimate or final-year students pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s in a STEM discipline (e.g., Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, or related Engineering subject).
- On track for a 2:1 or above from a leading institution.
- Enjoy solving technical problems and are curious about how systems work.
- Interested in building things.
- Hands-on experience through personal projects, open-source contributions, hobbies, internships, or academic work.
- Proficiency in C++, C#, or Python.
- Familiarity with scripting languages such as Python or Bash.
- Familiarity with tools and technologies including Git, SQL, GCC, and Linux.
- Curious, proactive, and comfortable asking questions.
- Look for ways to make systems simpler, faster, or more reliable and can turn observations into practical improvements.
- Self-motivated, thoughtful, and comfortable taking ownership of a problem.
- Selected candidates will complete a coding challenge focused on core programming and problem-solving skills.
- Shortlisted candidates will take part in interviews exploring technical thinking, approach to unfamiliar problems, and teamwork.
