About the Role

Wealthsimple is seeking Finance interns for the Winter 2027 cohort, offering six distinct tracks within the Finance team. This internship provides an opportunity to gain deep knowledge in one area of Finance while understanding its connection to the broader company operations. Interns will be expected to contribute to real work, identify areas for process improvement, and explore the integration of AI in financial operations. The role emphasizes learning how a fintech operates, analyzing financial and operational data, and understanding the direct impact of their work on clients.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare accrual and other entries needed that make a period complete.
  • Reconcile corporate bank accounts and reconcile balances between legal entities.
  • Work on projects to help continuously level up close processes with AI.
  • Prepare balance sheet reconciliations in FloQast and write summaries explaining financial movements.
  • Record revenue from trading and crypto commissions, management fees, currency exchange, and interest.
  • Reconcile client cash, securities, and crypto positions against bank and custodian records.
  • Chase down discrepancies in client positions by the next business day.
  • Prepare data for regulatory filings, including monthly and annual reports on brokerage capital.
  • Test internal controls and gather evidence.
  • Walk through processes with the people who run them.
  • Draw flowcharts and write narratives that explain how a process works.
  • Support the quarterly cycle where process owners confirm their controls execution.
  • Help prepare the internal controls update for the Audit Committee and support external audits.
  • Help people bring a purchase through Zip, our intake software.
  • Onboard new vendors and move requests through Legal, Security, Privacy, or vendor-risk review.
  • Match invoices against purchase orders, code them to the right team and account, and route them for approval in Zip.
  • Help more spend run through an approved purchase order before the invoice arrives.
  • Report on where requests slow down.
  • Support credit facilities and other borrowing, tracking limits, conditions, renewals, and lender reporting.
  • Help model and forecast various scenarios and their potential impact on funding.
  • Research current and potential banking partners.
  • Prepare analysis for negotiations with banking partners.
  • Sit in on negotiations with banking partners.
  • Help track how each partnership is performing.
  • Help build tools and processes to monitor financial risks, including foreign exchange and interest-rate exposures.
  • Own real work from your first weeks.
  • Bring AI into how the work gets done.
  • Improve processes.
  • Learn how a fintech operates.
  • Read financial and operational data in a business that moves quickly.
  • See the line from your work to the client.

Requirements

  • Working toward a degree in accounting, business, finance, or a related field, or recently finished one.
  • A working understanding of accounting principles and concepts.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Communication and collaboration skills to work across teams.
  • Comfort in a fast-moving environment with real deadlines.
  • Curiosity about technology, fintech, and how AI is changing the way a Finance team works.
