About the Role
Senior Business Data Analysts are responsible for understanding business requirements and identifying data needs to deliver business outcomes. They shape and enable the use of high-quality data products and solutions that align with the Asset Management target data strategy. The role combines strong analytical capability with a product mindset, guiding and mentoring junior analysts and ensuring data products are designed with clear purpose, quality, usability, and strategic fit.
Responsibilities
- Work with business stakeholders, Data Product Owners, delivery teams and change team to understand business demand, lead or support discovery activity, and assess how needs should be met through existing, enhanced or new data products and solutions.
- Contribute to the design of data products and wider solutions aligned to the Asset Management target data strategy and the long-term data platform direction.
- Shape demand by challenging requirements, identifying common needs across stakeholder groups, and ensure solutions are designed for reuse, scalability and strategic fit.
- Help define the purpose, scope and intended outcomes of data products, ensuring each has a clear business problem, defined users and measurable value.
- Develop well-structured product artefacts, including problem statements, data requirements, acceptance criteria, lineage and quality expectations, and operating model impacts.
- Support the creation and refinement of the data product roadmap, assessing business value, urgency, delivery complexity, governance and regulatory considerations.
- Assess data risks, quality gaps, ownership issues and business impacts across the full data lifecycle.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships across business functions, Investment Data Services, technology delivery teams and governance stakeholders.
- Work closely with technology delivery teams across requirements analysis, data modelling, integration, engineering, testing and release.
- Produce and validate source-to-target data mappings and resolve data discrepancies found during build and testing.
- Guide and mentor junior analysts and support the development of reusable standards, templates, procedures and guidance.
- Adopt an automation and efficiency mindset, using AI-assisted tools and techniques to accelerate data discovery, requirements documentation and testing.
- Contribute to and help maintain well-structured product backlogs, working within Scrum or Kanban delivery models.
- Support the definition of OKRs and other measurable goals to track data product progress and maturity.
Requirements
- Experience in business analysis, data analysis or product analysis roles within an asset management or wider financial services business.
- Understanding of how investment products, client servicing and regulatory obligations shape data requirements and priorities.
- Experience supporting or shaping data products, datasets, reporting capabilities or data platform solutions.
- Experience working with, or exposure to, modern cloud data platforms and transformation tooling (e.g. Snowflake, Purview), self-service analytics or data marketplace initiatives.
- Experience engaging with stakeholders to understand demand, facilitate discovery workshops and define business outcomes.
- Experience working with technology delivery teams (data modellers, engineers, testers, architects).
- Experience producing source-to-target mapping documentation and working hands-on through ingestion design, build and validation.
- Experience identifying data risks, quality issues, ownership gaps or operating model impacts.
- Experience delivering change using Agile methodologies including product backlogs, Scrum or Kanban, and OKRs within large delivery programmes or complex change environments.

- Familiarity with modern cloud-native data platforms and data tooling (e.g. Snowflake, Purview).
- Understanding of self-service semantic layers and data marketplace concepts.
- Strong understanding of core Investment Data concepts.
- Broader understanding of the Asset Management business asset classes, fund structures, client types and regulatory drivers.
- Comfortable using AI-assisted tools and automation to accelerate discovery, documentation and testing activities.
- Proactive and self-starting.
- Able to manage multiple deliverables and stakeholder expectations in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong desire to deliver practical outcomes that improve data capability.
- Comfortable defining and working with product KPIs, adoption metrics and value realisation measures.
