About the Role
Our Buildings team is seeking a talented Electrical Engineer / Project Designer to join our multidisciplinary team to deliver impactful design solutions for clients across a variety of market sectors. You will work leading smaller projects and as a member of a team for larger projects. You will lead in evaluating, selecting, specifying, and engineering certain electrical power, lighting, fire alarm and other low voltage systems for a project verifying compliance with applicable codes and internal engineering standards / practices. You will perform a variety of tasks which may include Revit and AutoCAD design, calculations, field work, and client interfacing. We also have opportunities for a Senior Electrical Engineer / Project Designer ready to step up to lead and provide technical oversight for our diverse teams working on complex and exciting projects.
Responsibilities
- Creates electrical design documentation using Revit/AutoCAD and directs junior staff.
- Provides supervision to develop staff skills through guidance and mentorship.
- Leads design development through sketches, calculations, models, and diagrams.
- Prepares and reviews documentation for various project phases.
- Coordinates with other building disciplines to ensure design compatibility.
- Performs advanced calculations for building elements and electrical systems.
- Performs field work to review existing conditions and contractor work.
- Leads engineering construction administration duties, including shop drawing review, RFI responses, client/contractor interfacing, and site observation reports.
- Leads evaluation and selection of building electrical systems/materials and develops specifications.
- Attends project coordination meetings.
- Participates in value engineering and cost estimating exercises.
- Applies technical expertise to lead cross-functional resources to meet project requirements.
- Provides client consultation based on professional expertise and knowledge of Stantec's services.
- Nurtures existing client relationships and pursues new business opportunities.
- Acts as a technical resource for staff and trains junior staff on software, codes, and design processes.
- Maintains current knowledge of technologies and trends, and strengthens personal skills.
- Implements sustainable design principles into building design.
Requirements
- Thorough understanding of electrical engineering concepts and ability to communicate ideas effectively.
- Solid understanding of power distribution systems, lighting systems, fire alarm, and low voltage systems for the built environment.
- Experience in the construction industry and/or in-depth knowledge of construction processes, including construction administration roles.
- Strong understanding of all phases of project document production and the relationship between drawings and specifications.
- Ability to apply sustainable design principles within projects.
- Ability to integrate design elements with other disciplines.
- Knowledge of applicable codes and standards such as NFPA Standards, International Building Codes and applicable Energy Codes.
- Strong client communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to participate on multiple overlapping projects and design teams while maintaining project execution and schedule.
- Ability to recognize developing technical problems and initiate corrective actions.
- Ability to check the work of others for accuracy and completeness and manage time to meet project budget and schedule.
- Ability to give direction and feedback to junior staff.
- Ability to participate and collaborate in project team settings and engage in creative and critical thought.
- Ability to develop sketches, drawings, building programs, and similar materials for junior staff.
- Ability to produce calculations based on project specific parameters.
- Ability to produce reports and studies as well as interpret findings.
- Ability to produce project-specific technical specifications independently.
- Working knowledge of Revit and AutoCAD as drafting/design tools.
- Understanding of Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience with AGI 32, SKM, and Newforma is advantageous.
- Working knowledge of low voltage systems such as telecommunications, security and fire alarm is advantageous but not required.
