About the Role
Our Commercial Lines Underwriter Academy is an accelerated 2-year learning experience designed to provide unparalleled expertise and career growth in the insurance industry. This paid, on-the-job training program will guide you to becoming a professional underwriter, offering rotations through different teams with mentorship and coaching to learn the commercial insurance business.
Responsibilities
- Start as an Underwriter Level I, gradually take on additional duties, and progress to Underwriter Level II upon program graduation.
- Gain exposure to different lines of commercial business and build general underwriting knowledge through team rotations.
- Learn the technical aspects of insurance, including risk assessment, evaluation, quoting, negotiation, and authorization of new business and policy renewals.
- Develop skills through instructor-led training, on-the-job learning, and self-study in a collaborative environment.
- Engage in challenging business cases, complete courses towards the Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) Designation, and participate in development opportunities.
- Build relationships with Broker partners, the core of the business, and learn to embody company values.
- Expand professional networks within Intact, the industry, and at events.
- Upon graduation, become an Underwriter Level II ready to manage commercial lines portfolios.
- Transition to leadership roles, including Senior Vice President positions, is a common career path for program graduates.
Requirements
- Recent or soon-to-be university or college new grad preferred (graduation year Spring 2027).
- Available to join the training program in June 2027.
- Strong GPA required; current transcripts must be shared.
- Knowledge or experience in providing a positive customer experience.
- Ability to prioritize work and studies to ensure timely completion of tasks.
- Interest in advancing a career in underwriting and willingness to pursue the Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) designation.
- Caring attitude towards people and natural ability to build and nurture relationships.
- Enthusiastic and curious learner who thrives in team or independent settings.
- Creative approach to problem-solving and willingness to take calculated risks.
- Analytical skills for making informed decisions or negotiations.

- For candidates in Quebec, bilingualism is required for regular interaction with English-speaking colleagues nationwide.
- No Canadian work experience required, but must be eligible to work in Canada.
- Must be eligible to work in Canada from the anticipated start date and throughout employment.
- Candidates must be solely responsible for maintaining their work eligibility.
