About the Role

The R&D Strategy team identifies and recommends key questions to evolve GSK’s R&D strategy, executes R&D-wide strategy projects, and partners with R&D leadership. This role will work on core R&D strategy questions, collaborating with project leads and senior leaders, engaging directly with the R&D Leadership Team and leading multi-disciplinary matrix teams. The team serves as a feeder for key talent within GSK, offering exposure to various business areas and senior leaders, with numerous progression opportunities.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and provide recommendations on key questions informing the evolution of GSK’s R&D strategy.
  • Execute R&D-wide strategy projects aligned with R&D priorities.
  • Serve as a partner to R&D leadership to develop strategies and execute initiatives.
  • Determine current performance, set ambition, and propose courses of action by accessing and interpreting internal and external data.
  • Collaborate with strategy project leads and senior leaders across GSK.
  • Engage directly with the R&D Leadership Team and various groups across R&D.
  • Lead multi-disciplinary matrix teams where necessary.

Requirements

  • Degree in Life Sciences, Business, or other relevant areas (PhD, MBA or other post-graduate degrees preferred).
  • Strategy consulting experience from a top-tier strategy consulting firm, or similar experience.
  • Ability to think strategically at a global level and dive deep into operational issues.
  • Proven capability to manage ambiguity and develop clear, evidence-based strategies from complex datasets.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey complex ideas clearly and compellingly.
  • Solid analytical skills and the ability to manipulate complex data, propose and test hypotheses, and challenge assumptions.
  • Rigorous project management skills.
  • Ability to engage senior stakeholders with a balanced mix of intellectual rigor and emotional intelligence.
  • R&D experience, combined with intellectual curiosity and demonstrated learning agility.
  • Agile and distributed decision-making – using evidence and applying judgment to balance pace, rigor and risk.
  • Effective management of individual and team performance.
  • Commitment to delivering high-quality results, overcoming challenges, and focusing on what matters.
  • Experience implementing and leading change initiatives.
  • Commitment to sustaining energy and well-being, building team resilience.
  • Continuous learning mindset, focus on building skills and sharing knowledge both internally and externally.
