About the Role

This position involves providing home care services to assist participants with daily living activities and community re-integration.

Responsibilities

  • Provide Recovery Assistant services of at least 15-minute duration in the participant's home and community settings.
  • Assist with or cue participants in meal planning and preparation, shopping, and housekeeping.
  • Assist with basic household tasks such as temperature regulation and bill paying.
  • Assist with or cue participants in dressing, personal grooming, and hygiene.
  • Provide guidance on the appropriate use of emergency medical services.
  • Assist or cue participants in engaging in family, social, and recreational activities.
  • Guide participants in the appropriate use of natural community supports.
  • Assist or cue participants in the appropriate use of routine medical/dental services.
  • Ensure participants use medications as prescribed.
  • Promote healthy habits, including diet, exercise, and stress management.
  • Assist participants in fulfilling personal commitments and attending appointments.
  • Assist or cue participants to avoid risky behaviors, substance abuse, overspending, and unnecessary conflicts.
  • Engage in supportive and problem-solving discussions with participants.
  • Establish and maintain a helpful, supportive relationship with participants.
  • Escort participants to medical, dental, or personal business appointments.
  • Engage in recreational, hobby, or sport-related activities with participants.
  • Participate in waiver Recovery Plan development and update meetings if requested.
  • Travel with a participant during qualifying waiver service activities.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must possess a high school diploma or GED.
  • Must possess a valid Connecticut driver's license or state-issued identification card.
  • Must be registered with the Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS) as having completed an approved Recovery Assistant training program.
  • Must have a Criminal Background check conducted within six months of application.
  • Must meet any continuing education and/or training requirements set by DMHAS.
