About the Role
The HarperCollins publicity team is seeking an Assistant Publicist to support publicity campaigns for adult trade groups, publishing a wide range of titles. This role involves supporting senior team members on campaigns and leading own campaigns under supervision. The position is based in NYC on a hybrid schedule.
Responsibilities
- Assists senior team members with various aspects of high-profile book launch campaigns.
- Under close supervision, is responsible for publicity campaigns for own projects each season.
- Drafts press releases and pitches, reaches out to targeted press, organizes feedback, helps coordinate interview logistics, tracks media coverage.
- Generates media contact lists and contributes to maintaining a shared database.
- Schedules book tour logistics and works with travel agency to coordinate author travel itineraries.
- Tracks campaign-specific budgets.
- Has the opportunity to attend select book signings, help with escorting authors to media interviews, and helps support staff members at special events.
- Communicates detailed campaign updates directly to senior publicity staff, editors, marketers, sales team, agents, and authors.
- Researches new media and creative promo opportunities, including influencers across Instagram, TikTok, and other social platforms.
- Responds to outside inquiries, including review copy requests and general information questions.
- Coordinates mailings of books, galleys, and other materials.
Requirements
- Prior internship experience in publishing and/or public relations a plus.
- Can work collaboratively and independently while contributing to department goals.
- Excellent writing, communication, and organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Ability to multi-task and thrive in a fast-paced and deadline-oriented environment.
- Ability to handle information confidentially.
- Comfortable presenting in front of large groups.
- Candidate ideally has a passion for books and a growth mindset.
- Cover letters are strongly preferred.
