About the Role
Plans and provides juvenile services to divert youth from the juvenile justice system and addresses emotional and behavioral concerns by utilizing community resources. This position specializes in community outreach and coordinates community service programs for all youth under Court supervision.
Responsibilities
- Provides preventative services to juveniles and families referred to the Grand Traverse County Diversion Program, including support group facilitation.
- Coordinates with and makes referrals to community resources for youth in diversion.
- Performs intake and assessment of referred youth.
- Develops diversion contracts with youth and their families.
- Monitors and works with youth and families on fulfilling diversion contracts.
- Maintains contact with school personnel.
- May be required to testify in court proceedings.
- Carries a probation caseload as needed in special circumstances.
- Compiles and prepares data and statistics on the diversion program.
- Coordinates community service programs for all youth in diversion and under court jurisdiction.
- Assists Probation Officers with coordinating activities, reports, and case management of program participants.
- Reports directly to the Senior Probation Officer.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Must meet minimum requirements, conditions of employment, and be able to successfully perform all essential duties and responsibilities with or without reasonable accommodations.
- May require irregular hours.
- May require travel in the employee's own vehicle.
- May be required to work on-call in an emergency.
- A background check will be required initially and periodically.
- Appointment to or continued employment is contingent upon a satisfactory background check.
- May be required to serve in an “on-call” capacity.
Skills
- Proficiency in English grammar, spelling, punctuation, and simple mathematical functions.
- General knowledge of Circuit Court, Family Division statutory and regulatory requirements.
- Knowledge and ability to use a personal computer for reports, records, and data compilation.
- Interpersonal skills to develop and maintain effective working relationships.
- Skill in operation of modern office equipment.
- Ability to appropriately and effectively represent the Court and County at community events.
- Skill in researching and resolving problems to ensure compliance.
- Ability to assess and provide guidance within area of specialized knowledge.
- Ability to interpret and explain policies, processes, regulations, and applicable laws.
- Ability to consistently demonstrate sound ethics and judgment.
- Ability to think analytically, apply sound judgment, solve problems, make effective decisions, and act with integrity.

Salary/Compensations
- Starting Hourly Rate: $28.21 USD
