About the Role

OpenBMC Firmware System Architects at Jabil collaborate with customers, sales, and product planning to establish the technical direction for Jabil design teams in the Cloud, Compute, and switching markets. Demonstrate expertise in OpenBMC and BMC, assess technical requirements, determine competencies needed during quoting, develop system architectures, monitor technical direction, and mentor others.

Responsibilities

Advise and discuss technology tradeoffs with customers, product planning, and business development.
Establish technical direction for customer-originated projects and Jabil's cloud compute product offerings.
Align to product requirements documents.
Manage architectural tradeoffs on cost, complexity, and schedule.
Manage BMC (Baseboard Management Controller) and BIOS features.
Plan leverage, strategy, and risk.
Collaborate with fellow system architects in electrical, thermal, BIOS, Validation, RAS, and OS domains.
Communicate technical direction to Jabil development teams through handoff documentation.
Stay current on vendor technology capabilities in spaces such as CPUs, GPUs, Storage, Memory, FPGAs, MCUs, etc.
Architect for the latest industry trends including OpenBMC, DMTF, and Open Compute (OCP).
Deep dive into new open-ended areas by leveraging previous engineering experiences.
Contribute to the improvement of architecture methods and processes.
Train, mentor, and coach new engineers.
Influence others and share best practices.
Assess a project and articulate risk while developing project milestones.
Lead BMC Projects with multiple engineers assigned.
Lead BIOS projects with multiple engineers assigned.
Breakdown and articulate customer requirements to engineering line items.

Requirements

Capability to research and explore unfamiliar technologies and concepts with an eye towards feasibility is required.
Ability to translate customer requirements to measurable internal requirements.
Expertise in OpenBMC architecture, codebase, repository structure, and testing is required.
Familiarity with the Intel, AMD, Nvidia, or ARM CPU/GPU architectures, specifically understanding how the firmware stack operates and interacts with core system components is required.
High-level understanding of best coding practices and source control, specifically understanding C++, Python, Javascript, HTML5, Git, CI/CD, and the agile development process is required.
Experience working with industry standards for IPMI, Redfish, MCTP, PLDM, SMBUS, i2c, i3c, SPI, etc. is required.
Extensive experience with Linux is required.
Familiarity with Secure Boot, SPDM, Platform Root of Trust, DICE, and NIST SP 800-193 standards, as well as cryptographic algorithms and protocols (PKI, Certificates, AES, HMAC, ECC) is required.
Familiar with Linux operating system, kernel, and application is required.
