Responsibilities
- Design and deliver scalable, secure and high-performing data platforms that support analytics, operational workloads, AI and emerging use cases.
- Work to agile best practices and cross-functionally with multiple teams and stakeholders.
- Use technical skills to problem solve with clients and work on internal projects.
- Steer technical teams through complex challenges and guide clients towards successful digital transformations.
- Provide mentorship to engineers and create an environment of continuous improvement.
- Live in-person whiteboarding sessions to problem solve as a team, alongside asynchronous communication on Teams.
- Help teams use GenAI effectively across engineering delivery, applying the right practices, controls and guardrails.
- Technically lead data engineering or data platform teams, setting direction while enabling engineers to own and deliver solutions.
- Design and deliver modern data platforms that are scalable, reliable and cost-effective in enterprise environments.
- Make sound architectural decisions across ingestion, storage, processing, modelling, orchestration and serving.
- Apply strong software engineering practices to data platforms, including testing, CI/CD and infrastructure-as-code.
- Establish effective approaches to data quality, observability, governance, metadata and security.
- Lead data platform modernisation and migration, including coexistence, cutover and decommissioning.
- Make pragmatic technology choices and understand the trade-offs between platform, storage, processing and integration patterns.
- Shape the end-to-end engineering lifecycle, improving how teams build, test, deploy and operate software and data products.
- Communicate clearly with engineers, clients and senior stakeholders, and establish credibility quickly in complex delivery environments.
- Be comfortable with ambiguity, challenge assumptions and turn business problems into practical technical solutions.
- Provide technical input into bids, proposals and client discussions, including shaping solution approaches and implementation plans.
Requirements
- Demonstrable experience of technically leading data engineering or data platform teams, setting direction while enabling engineers to own and deliver solutions.
- Demonstrable experience of designing and delivering modern data platforms that are scalable, reliable and cost-effective in enterprise environments.
- Demonstrable experience of making sound architectural decisions across ingestion, storage, processing, modelling, orchestration and serving.
- Demonstrable experience of applying strong software engineering practices to data platforms, including testing, CI/CD and infrastructure-as-code.
- Demonstrable experience of establishing effective approaches to data quality, observability, governance, metadata and security.
- Demonstrable experience of leading data platform modernisation and migration, including coexistence, cutover and decommissioning.
- Demonstrable experience of making pragmatic technology choices and understanding the trade-offs between platform, storage, processing and integration patterns.
