About the Role

The Homelessness Prevention Program (HPP) provides assistance to families and individuals in San Francisco to help them maintain or obtain permanent housing. This role involves advocacy and support services for a caseload of clients, including crisis intervention, budget planning, and coordination with community resources.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct eligibility assessments and needs assessments over the phone.
  • Coordinate housing stabilization plans, including budget development and landlord communication.
  • Assist clients in obtaining permanent housing through security deposits and referrals.
  • Provide crisis intervention and short-term case management.
  • Mediate with landlords and legal representatives to prevent eviction.
  • Redirect legal cases to appropriate agencies and follow up.
  • Provide employer advocacy.
  • Maintain communication with client attorneys or legal representatives.
  • Assist clients in accessing public benefits.
  • Perform immediate intervention for families facing eviction.
  • Assess, assist, and close cases annually to meet program objectives.
  • Maintain proper client notes and program documentation.
  • Submit check requests and follow up on payment status.
  • Verify client information to avoid duplication.
  • Complete data entry and update client information in various systems.
  • Scan and upload client documentation.
  • Compile reports as requested.
  • Conduct follow-up to monitor housing stability.

Requirements

  • Must be able to read and write English.
  • Ability to communicate clearly in both verbal and written forms.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks with strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to design systems and processes to track data and monitor progress.
  • Demonstrates the necessary attitudes, knowledge, and skills to deliver culturally competent services and work effectively in cross-cultural situations.
  • Frequent bending, standing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, twisting, and walking.
  • Frequent lifting, pushing, and pulling.
  • Frequent repetitive motions of wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
  • Medium work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Close visual acuity required for data analysis, transcription, computer use, and reading.
  • May need to enter private residences.
  • Occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions.
  • May include contact with clients with mental health issues.
  • Occasionally exposed to perfume or scents.
  • Subject to outside environmental conditions.
  • Subject to noise, which can be moderate to excessive.
  • Occasional need to interact with clients expressing anger.
  • Work environment includes traveling using various modes of transportation.

Skills

  • Strong coordination skills.
  • Knowledge of community resources for families transitioning from homelessness.
  • Strong knowledge of substance abuse and mental health issues and treatment models.
  • Ability to assess emergency situations and react accordingly.
  • Functional knowledge of Microsoft Office Products.
  • Ability to speak Spanish or Cantonese.
  • Knowledge of mandatory reporting requirements for people working with children.
  • Knowledge of issues facing homeless families.

Experience Level

  • One year of experience preferred with BA degree
  • Three years of related experience with AA degree
  • Previous experience locating and maintaining affordable family housing

Salary/Compensations

  • $31.47-$32.42
