About the Role

The Assistant Athletic Trainer will work in conjunction with the Director of Sports Medicine to coordinate the care of student athletes, including prevention, evaluation, management, treatment, and rehabilitation of injuries. This role also involves teaching a course each semester for additional pay.

Responsibilities

Evaluate and treat athletic injuries.
Make independent decisions regarding assessment, treatment, rehabilitation, and return to play.
Manage short- and long-term rehabilitation plans.
Supervise medical care needs of specific teams as assigned.
Assist in establishing and maintaining relationships with coaches, physicians, and parents.
Refer students as necessary.
Maintain detailed medical records and insurance for student-athletes.
Coordinate pre-participation physical examinations.
Schedule doctor's appointments for injured athletes.
Assist with inventory of medical supplies and equipment.
Counsel student-athletes regarding medical issues.
Remain in full compliance with NCAA, conference, and college policies and procedures.
Obtain required continuing education credits for licensure renewal and national certification.
Work frequent evenings and weekends.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Master's Degree in athletic training, kinesiology, or a closely related field.
Texas Department of State Health Services License required, or eligible for licensure.
NATA BOC certification required.
One to two years of athletic training experience.
Two years of experience at the collegiate level preferred.
Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication, and organizational skills.
Current CPR certification preferred.
Ability to work flexible hours including sporting and non-sporting events that may occur early morning, weeknights, weekends, possibly holidays and team travel.
Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to prioritize and perform multiple tasks with little to no supervision.
Highly effective verbal and written communication skills, including in stress/pressure situations.
A criminal history background check is required for finalist(s).
