About the Role
Old Dominion is seeking a dedicated Maintenance Technician to join their team. This role is crucial for maintaining the company's fleet by performing preventative maintenance, diagnosing and repairing mechanical and electrical issues, and ensuring compliance with industry standards. The ideal candidate is passionate about hands-on work, problem-solving, and thrives in a collaborative environment.
Responsibilities
- Repair company equipment safely, timely, cost-effectively, and practically.
- Perform preventative maintenance, general repairs, troubleshooting, and electronic diagnostics.
- Build, rebuild, and repair all parts of company equipment as required.
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical, or other breakdowns or failures of motor trucks or related equipment.
- Read precision instruments including micrometers, dial indicators, bore gauges, voltmeters, digital multi-meters, and calibrators.
- Troubleshoot and perform failure analysis on component parts and systems of trucks, truck tractors, trailers, or converter dollies.
- Utilize welding skills and knowledge of metals to complete truck repairs.
- Perform horizontal and vertical welding without air pockets in the bead (for converter dolly work).
- Apply knowledge of DOT, EPA, ICC, and OSHA rules and regulations.
- Complete all assigned duties and tasks as expected.
Requirements
- High School degree or equivalent.
- Experience working as a maintenance technician or equivalent education.
- Experience with truck repair, body and frame repair.
- Must provide own tools to perform job duties.
- Ability to complete required paperwork and records.
- Must possess a valid Commercial Driver’s License (when required).
- Working knowledge of most systems on a truck/truck tractor, semi-trailer, or converter dolly.
- Proficient at reading precision instruments.
- Ability to troubleshoot and perform failure analysis.
- Knowledge of DOT, EPA, ICC, and OSHA rules and regulations.
- Willingness to participate in training classes.
- Willingness to take written and/or oral tests for management assessment.
- Maintain superior customer relations.
- Willing to work on any piece of rolling stock and associated equipment.
- Must be able to sit 10% of time.
- Must be able to stand for up to 8-10 hours/shift, 5-7 days/week.
- Must be able to walk up to 8 hours a day.
- Must be able to perform frequent bending, squatting, or kneeling.
- Must be able to climb onto and off truck cabins or forklifts multiple times daily.
- Must be able to load/unload trailers and move materials.
- Must be able to frequently lift and handle objects up to 100 lbs.
- Must be able to reach into tight spaces.
- Must be able to hear horns of forklifts, trucks, and shouted instructions.
- Must be able to use hands for various tasks including operating equipment and tools.
- Must have good dexterity for using hand tools with precision.
- Must be able to work a variety of times and shifts.
- Must be able to use cognitive skills for attention to surroundings, memory, logic, reasoning, auditory and visual processing.
- Must be able to see and read work orders, boxes, part numbers, and other printed materials.
- Must be able to read, write, and speak English.
- Ability to work in extremely hot or cold climates.
- Ability to work in an environment with noise and odors.
- Attendance is a requirement.
