About the Role
Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Austin is expanding its services, including a new cardiac catheterization lab, enhanced imaging, and a breast imaging center. This role is crucial in supporting this growth by preparing teams for phased openings throughout 2026, allowing you to shape workflows, build team culture, and launch new services.
Responsibilities
- Performs nuclear medicine, PET, and theranostic procedures under radiologist supervision for ambulatory and hospital patients.
- Evaluates the quality of imaging procedures and follows established standards.
- Maintains equipment by performing quality control.
- Communicates with patients to identify service needs and ensure correct exams are performed.
- Instructs and communicates with patients and their families about tests, following HIPAA.
- Protects patients and team members by following safety requirements, infection-control protocols, and techniques.
- Prepares patients and areas for procedures, including positioning and equipment setup.
- Uses proper aseptic or sterile techniques for invasive procedures.
- Maintains hand hygiene requirements.
- Safeguards patients, team members, and self by following radiation safety rules, policies, and techniques.
- Verifies correct radioactive drug for exam or treatment.
- Screens patients for pregnancy status before exam or treatment.
- Administers radiopharmaceuticals and medications per protocol.
- Educates patients on radiation safety techniques.
- Follows radiation disposal guidelines.
- Reports issues to leadership or appropriate departments.
- Assists in maintaining supplies inventory and ordering radiopharmaceuticals.
- Works collaboratively with colleagues, nursing partners, medical staff, and radiologists.
- Ensures accurate transfer of patient images to the BSWH PACS.
- Observes changes in patients' medical conditions and communicates them to appropriate personnel.
- Administers first aid and uses the emergency cart.
- Provides services timely, accurately, and cost-efficiently in compliance with standards.
- Performs tasks autonomously without routine oversight.
- Remains calm and helpful during stress, taking steps to resolve issues.
- Ensures customer satisfaction by limiting wait times and providing courteous service.
- Serves as a trainer, providing education to new team members and students.
- Adheres to policies, procedures, and workflows including PACS, EMR, and record management.
- Utilizes general computer skills, including Microsoft Office, information security, and electronic medical documentation.
Requirements
- Must have some cardiac experience and be required to complete some studies.
- Demonstrates and maintains current knowledge, education, and skills for caring for newborn, pediatric, young adult, adult, and geriatric age groups.
