About the Role
The Category Associate role is designed for individuals eager to learn the inner workings of a fast-growing marketplace by taking ownership of real relationships and business outcomes from day one. The role involves building a foundational toolkit in core functions like seller outreach, relationship management, marketing, and data analytics during the first two years, with opportunities to specialize and grow into leadership roles thereafter.
Responsibilities
- Become the go-to expert on your category, including seller/buyer dynamics, community channels, influencers, and product nuances.
- Serve as the face of Whatnot for the community of sellers and buyers represented.
- Source and reach out to sellers to encourage their participation and growth on Whatnot, utilizing social media, outbound channels, and in-person events.
- Partner with top sellers and strategic partners to foster significant business growth on Whatnot.
- Develop and implement seller growth plans to drive category expansion.
- Spearhead diverse marketing initiatives, including influencer partnerships, to enhance brand awareness and attract more buyers.
- Apply basic data analytics skills (SQL) to extract insights and improve process efficiency.
- Utilize key data points to evaluate category growth, success, and identify areas for enhancement, promoting continuous iteration.
Requirements
- Graduating by Summer 2027
- Passion for Whatnot's mission, understanding and working to improve community experiences.
- Internship experience in a fast-paced, client-facing role with a history of rapid, iterative work.
- Adaptability and flexibility to thrive in an ambiguous environment with minimal supervision.
- Strong problem-solving and project management skills with the ability to fully own strategy and execution in an emerging marketplace.
- Business acumen, strong analytical skills, and comfort with data manipulation for business insights.
- Enthusiasm for building a broad skill set before specializing, prioritizing breadth over depth initially.
