About the Role
Fanshawe College is establishing the Norton Wolf School of Aerospace, Information, and Defence Technologies and seeks an exceptional leader to guide its next phase of growth. This role is crucial for advancing the school's reputation in talent development, applied innovation, and workforce readiness in critical sectors for Canada's economic competitiveness.
Responsibilities
- Provides Academic Leadership
- Works collaboratively in the development and implementation of the school’s/faculty’s strategic plan
- Contributes to the academic well-being of the College through competent planning and administration of the School’s programs and services
- Initiates, facilitates and actively participates in the development and implementation of new academic programs
- Ensures that the objectives of the school/faculty are attained through effective supervision of the teaching and learning processes
- Participates in the development of new program initiatives to assist the College with new partnerships and strategic alliances
- Ensures that the current and future educational needs of students are met by providing an ongoing review of programs
- Chairs several committees and represents the school/faculty on College-wide and provincial committees
- Promotes community ventures by forming linkages/networks and develops/establishes partnership arrangements
- Advises and counsels students to help them resolve problems and coordinates crisis management strategies for vulnerable students
- Supports the Ontario Human Rights Code in that the needs of students with disabilities must be accommodated
- Manages and Develops Human Resources
- Maintains a high level of performance through effective recruiting, selecting, developing, motivating, evaluating and training of faculty and support staff
- Promotes and monitors ongoing professional development of faculty
- Directs and administers the activities of faculty in their teaching assignments and complementary functions
- Promotes and monitors the ongoing professional development for faculty and staff
- Conducts first and second level investigations and initiates the problem solving process for disputes involving faculty, staff and students
- Establishes and fosters a working environment that encourages respect, creativity, communication and interaction
- Recommends disciplinary and termination action as required
- Contributes to Program Evaluation, Partnerships and Marketing Promotions
- Conducts curriculum review processes for assigned portfolio and implements initiatives related to curriculum
- Establishes learning outcomes for programs and strategic alliances
- Seeks and promotes new initiatives that reflect and meet the needs of changing business and industry sectors
- Establishes and maintains positive, ongoing relationships within the various fields
- Coordinates partnership arrangements with other educational institutions
- Ensures Effectiveness of Operations
- Develops, monitors and directs budget activity for the school/faculty
- Projects student enrolment for the purpose of the College revenue distribution
- Ensures the effective use of human, physical and financial resources
- Oversees the planning, generation and accuracy of data for course loading
- Ensures Occupational Health and Safety, Ontarians with Disabilities Act requirements are implemented and maintained
- Assists the Dean as necessary regarding implementation of special projects
- Performs other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Masters degree in a related Discipline
- Minimum 9 years’ of related and progressive administrative experience at point of hire
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
- Teaching experience at the post-secondary level
- Extensive knowledge in curriculum design and development, program planning, marketing, public speaking and budget management
- Subject matter expertise in aviation or aerospace training, preferred
- Familiarity with Transport Canada regulatory frameworks and the delivery of accredited aviation programs
- Demonstrated ability to cultivate and foster a collegial, collaborative environment
- Demonstrated ability to work with the applicable sector
- Effective leadership and team building skills
- Learner-centered approach to the teaching and learning process
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to establish alliances with the related occupational community
- Successful candidates will be required to perform work within Ontario
- Must be available to work on campus, as required
