About the Role

RA runs a global ticketing marketplace where money moves, tickets scan, and events sell out quickly. The Chief Technical Officer owns the engineering systems behind this, including web, apps, core platform, and infrastructure, focusing on shipping speed and system stability. This is an engineering leadership role, distinct from product strategy, which is managed by the Chief Platform Officer. The ideal candidate will have experience rebuilding a team around AI tooling and demonstrating measurable improvements in estimation, review, testing, and shipping.

Responsibilities

  • Own engineering delivery across web, mobile, and core platform.
  • Set processes for scoping, estimating, reviewing, releasing, and verifying work in production.
  • Be accountable for the pace and quality of delivered work.
  • Own the technical architecture and its multi-year plan, deciding on rebuilds, replacements, or maintenance.
  • Own reliability, performance, and security, with a focus on ticketing and payments.
  • Own the technical aspects of payments, including gateway integrations, pay-in/pay-out infrastructure, fraud tooling, and risk/compliance systems.
  • Own developer effectiveness and set the risk model for shipping.
  • Integrate AI into RA's engineering practices across tooling, code review, testing, and delivery.
  • Ensure AI-driven throughput gains are translated into shipped work rather than idle capacity.
  • Partner with the Chief Platform Officer on delivery planning, scoping, backlog readiness, and technical trade-offs.
  • Assess and develop existing engineering leadership.
  • Build the engineering management layer, own technical hiring, and maintain the engineering bar.
  • Reduce dependencies on single individuals.
  • Own build-versus-buy decisions and technology spend, including vendors, infrastructure costs, and investment sequencing.
  • Set and utilize engineering metrics for delivery, reliability, incidents, and developer effectiveness to drive system improvements.

Requirements

  • Ten or more years leading engineering organizations, with several years at Head of Engineering, VP Engineering, Chief Technical Officer, or equivalent level, managing managers.
  • Experience running systems where failure is expensive and visible, such as high-traffic consumer platforms, payments, ticketing, or comparable transactional infrastructure.
  • Evidence of raising delivery pace in an existing organization.
  • Genuine AI fluency in engineering practice, with experience changing how a team works with AI tooling and specific examples of improvements.
  • Strong architectural judgment and a track record of simplifying systems while improving reliability and speed.
  • Strength in both web and native mobile engineering, or the judgment to lead one credibly without direct building experience.
  • Experience with payments, financial flows, or regulated data, and comfort working within a policy framework set by Finance.
  • Judgment to distinguish real technical debt from old work and sequence rebuilds without stopping the business.
  • Experience taking on and improving an existing team, not just building from scratch.
  • Clear, direct communication with non-technical individuals.
  • Experience in ticketing, marketplaces, events, music, or media is an advantage.
  • A passion for electronic music and an interest in the global electronic music community.
