About the Role

Freedom of the Press Foundation (FPF) is hiring a 25-hour-per-week IT support specialist to support staff and provide the infrastructure team with more capacity for project work. This hybrid role is primarily remote, with up to two days a week on-site in Brooklyn, NY. The schedule requires standard overlap with U.S. Eastern Time core business hours. The position will provide front-line technical support and take on scoped projects.

Responsibilities

  • Provide front-line response for IT support tickets and requests in a mixed Mac/Linux environment.
  • Manage onboarding, offboarding, hardware setup, and asset management.
  • Offer in-office coverage, including backup support when the IT/infrastructure engineer is unavailable.
  • Maintain documentation systems.
  • Support access management and perform account provisioning/deprovisioning.
  • Undertake scoped projects or tasks, such as workflow automation or implementing new tools and services.
  • Help monitor and triage CVEs and alerts affecting infrastructure.
  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned by the engineering manager for infrastructure.

Requirements

  • One-plus year(s) in IT providing technical support in an engineering/highly technical environment.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Experience with ticketing systems and managing a support queue.
  • Experience in access management, user authentication, and authorization processes.
  • Comfort in a terminal with knowledge of basic shell commands.
  • Comfort working in a mixed Linux and Mac environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to explain technical concepts to nontechnical audiences.
  • A passion for the First Amendment, transparency, and protecting the rights of journalists and whistleblowers.
