About the Role
Performs technical duties in patient care, assisting with general healthcare needs, cleanliness, grooming, rest, activity, nourishment, and medication distribution. Contributes to maintaining a safe therapeutic environment.
Responsibilities
- Collects, reports, and documents patient data including vital signs, height and weight, intake and output, and pulse oximetry.
- Performs and reports Point of Care Testing.
- Assists with patient activities and care as assigned by the charge nurse/designee.
- Provides for patients' personal hygiene, including bathing, oral suctioning, superficial and chronic wound care, skin care, and ostomy care.
- Assists with feeding.
- Assists with patient ambulation, positioning, turning, and care for patients with altered mobility.
- Assists with patient safety measures, including restraints and specific precautions.
- Interviews incoming patients, completes screening forms, and identifies patients needing immediate attention.
- Records information on newly received patients and maintains statistical logs.
- Performs duties necessary for psychiatric referrals and screening.
- Assists in maintaining a safe and comfortable facility environment.
- Obtains, stores, and maintains pharmacy and nursing medications/supplies.
- Distributes and documents patient medications according to regulations.
- Ensures drug room security, replaces working drug stocks, and maintains pharmaceutical equipment.
- Enters medication compliance into the pharmacy computer system.
- Maintains patient privacy and confidentiality of information and records.
- Practices cost containment and utilization management.
- Prioritizes and organizes work to meet deadlines.
- Promotes positive interpersonal relationships with co-workers and Security.
- Participates in in-service orientation and continuing education classes.
- Adheres to internal controls and reporting structures.
- Performs related duties as required.
Requirements
- High school or GED equivalent.
- Current Texas Certified Medication Aide permit.
- Security clearance is required.
- Pre-employment drug testing is required.
- Able to work under stress and be emotionally capable of coping with complex or changing activities.
- Alertness and careful attention to detail required to avoid injury.
