About the Role

The Administrative Resource Specialist – Behavioral Health is a frontline member of the behavioral health team, responsible for administrative support functions within the office. This role involves processing patient information and supporting behavioral health services.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize electronic medical record (EMR) functions including scheduling, registration, and telephone encounters.
  • Communicate with patients and visitors using age-specific language and safety precautions.
  • Answer and screen telephone calls professionally within 3 to 5 rings.
  • Schedule routine and emergency patient appointments according to guidelines.
  • Schedule non-routine appointments such as cancellations.
  • Maintain the behavioral health treatment schedule for all staff.
  • Greet and assist patients and visitors promptly and positively.
  • Complete patient registration, verifying and updating demographic and insurance information.
  • Conduct and track prior authorizations with the billing department.
  • Verify patient eligibility for various insurances and sliding fee discounts.
  • Collect and scan necessary patient documents.
  • Check out patients, collect co-pays and charges, and schedule return appointments.
  • Reconcile payments, prepare daily deposits, and post payments to patient accounts.
  • Collaborate with co-workers and provide backup support.
  • Coordinate referrals to behavioral health services and conduct patient outreach.
  • Perform general office duties including correspondence, scanning, faxing, and photocopying.
  • Participate in staff meetings, distributing agendas and minutes.
  • Control access to clinical areas to ensure patient confidentiality.
  • Attend assigned trainings and meetings.
  • Demonstrate excellent customer service.
  • Communicate HIPAA compliance, corporate compliance, and client confidentiality.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Adhere to National Patient Safety Goals.
  • Assist the Director of Behavioral Health.
  • Complete other assigned duties.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Experience in a health care setting.
  • Computer skills, word processing.
  • Minimum typing speed of 60 WPM.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Associate's Degree or Bachelor's Degree (preferred).
  • Two to Four years of work experience in a health care setting (preferred).
  • Experience with health information processing (preferred).
  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications (preferred).
  • Knowledge of medical terminology (preferred).
  • Multi-lingual ability (preferred).
