About the Role
Live Oak School is seeking a Middle School Spanish Teacher for a short-term leave position from March through May 2026. This role involves in-person instruction and requires a commitment to equity and social justice, aligning with the school's mission.
Responsibilities
- Plan, document, and implement the middle school Spanish program according to department standards and school philosophy.
- Teach 6 sections of middle school Spanish, oversee a weekly club, and participate in duties and study halls.
- Engage in self-reflection and professional growth through goal setting and PD opportunities.
- Lead an advisory group of middle school students and collaborate with the grade-level team on content.
- Collaborate with the Middle School Learning Specialist, School Counselor, and Deans to provide academic and social support to students.
- Attend staff, middle school division, and team meetings as needed.
- Facilitate and record notes for advisees’ student-led Spring parent conferences.
- Develop and implement assessment practices and provide regular feedback to students.
- Prepare report cards and midterm reports.
- Guide student portfolio work.
- Coordinate Acorn Stories.
- Coordinate and participate in field trips.
- Communicate regularly with families, including sending assessed work home and posting to class websites.
- Lead a Grove.
- Participate in the middle school internal subbing program.
- Supervise students during lunch, recess, and assemblies.
- Collaborate with the grade-level team in planning and implementing New Student Orientation.
- Support admissions' work through hosting tours and visitors, and participating in the Middle School Open House.
- Participate in the Middle School BTSN.
- Participate in Camp Live Oak.
- Support students during one evening event.
- Attend the MS Music Festival/MS Drama Productions/Art Show.
- Participate in the outdoor ed/travel overnight education trip.
- Write speeches for graduates and attend the Eighth Grade Reflections Ceremony.
Requirements
- Experience as a head teacher.
- Professional training.
- Enjoy collaborative work on curriculum development.
- Demonstrate a commitment to issues of equity and social justice.
- Feel a resonance with the school’s mission, vision, values, and educational philosophy.
