About the Role

We are looking for a senior data scientist to streamline marketing operations at team.blue by building agentic systems to run them. You would report into the Applied AI team and work on marketing automation projects.

Responsibilities

  • Map processes, quantify the time and resources they consume, and determine the ROI impact of agentic automation.
  • Build a proof of concept, take it to production, and measure the impact of your work.
  • Sit with SEO or paid search owners to map traffic-drop investigations and quantify time spent on each step.
  • Extract requirements from non-data experts.
  • Design state transitions, triggers, branches, API calls, human intervention points, and failure handling.
  • Build guardrails such as dry-run mode, approval gates, least-privilege API scopes, and documented undo functionality.
  • Decide where and at what confidence threshold a human stays in the loop, and design a review queue.
  • Write evaluations for output that go beyond precision and recall, assessing diagnosis correctness, source citation accuracy, and brand voice adherence in generated content.
  • Check tracking data soundness and quantify errors before building on it.
  • Wire agents to webhooks or scheduled triggers, ensuring idempotency for retries.
  • Decide where frontier models are warranted versus cheaper alternatives, and prove this routing with numbers.
  • Evaluate technical vendors based on API surface, data model, extensibility, and true integration cost.
  • Perform prompt engineering at scale, including versioning, testing, and rollback of prompts and models as production artifacts.
  • Evaluate generated output across multiple languages.

Requirements

  • 7+ years building data and ML systems in industry, spanning both sides of the LLM shift.
  • Experience as the sole person responsible for a job end-to-end.
  • Shipped systems with permission to act on live systems affecting real customers.
  • Expert in Python and ML.
  • Ability to write Python code that is readable after six months.
  • Proficiency with a current toolchain (uv, Docker, or equivalent).
  • Ability to containerize and instrument your own work.
  • Production experience with multi-step, tool-calling LLM workflows, including orchestration, retries, idempotency, timeouts, and partial-failure recovery.
  • Experience with state-machine design.
  • Experience integrating against third-party APIs, including handling auth flows, rate limits, pagination, sandbox differences, and schema changes.
  • Experience with cost and latency engineering as a first-class concern, including model routing, caching, and batching.
  • A safety instinct for systems that take actions, including staging modes, approval gates, least-privilege scoping, and rollback mechanisms.
  • Experience with evaluation design for generative and agentic output, including LLM-as-judge, golden-transcript regression suites, and red-teaming.
  • Ability to perform process mapping and quantification.
  • Ability to perform technical vendor evaluation.
