About the Role
Chime's Financial Crimes team safeguards members from financial crime by detecting and investigating suspicious activity, escalating findings to bank partners. This senior individual contributor role involves setting standards for financial crime work, defining best practices, and owning complex investigations end-to-end.
Responsibilities

- Set the quality standard for others through defensible judgment calls.
- Influence cross-functional teams without formal authority and represent Financial Crimes to external partners.
- Elevate team performance through calibration, coaching, documentation, and leading by example.
- Improve operational systems by creating reusable assets like controls, procedures, detection changes, or documented typologies from investigations.
- Manage and support a team of analysts.
- Oversee vendor team quality by sampling operations work, running calibrations, monitoring quality assurance trends, and managing quality and productivity expectations.
- Analyze risk trends, understand AML and Fraud risks, identify patterns in unusual activity, and visualize network shapes for non-investigators.
- Develop and document new and evolving schemes, make them teachable, identify coverage gaps, and collaborate with partners to create necessary coverage.
- Design the operational rollout of new coverage, including routing, procedures, evidence standards, and quality checks.
- Own and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for clarity and third-party understanding.
- Prepare operations for audit and exam readiness, and manage the remediation of findings.
Requirements
- 7+ years in financial crime, fraud, or risk investigations at a bank, fintech, payments company, or comparable regulated environment.
- Working command of BSA, the USA PATRIOT Act, OFAC requirements, and unusual/suspicious activity reporting standards.
- Deep experience across the transaction monitoring alert lifecycle at real volume, including operational tradeoffs.
- Real typology depth across both money laundering and fraud, including mule and money movement networks, first-party fraud, synthetic and stolen identity, scams and social engineering, and elder financial exploitation.
- Hands-on involvement in scenario tuning or threshold work with data or risk partners, understanding the cost of threshold changes.
- Experience overseeing vendor or outsourced investigation teams.
- Judgment to distinguish cases requiring significant time from those requiring less.
- Comfort with sustained ambiguity and the judgment to know when to stop pursuing non-viable hypotheses.
- Advanced SQL proficiency.
- Fluency with graph or link analysis tooling for mapping relationships at scale.
- CAMS, CFE, or equivalent certification preferred.
