About the Role
As a Grid Connection Engineer, you will be responsible for the control and optimization of all grid connection processes (HV/MV) for PV, wind, and BESS projects in Germany. The goal of the role is to ensure timely and cost-effective grid connection as a core component of the energy transition. You will take responsibility for complex technical-regulatory requirements, manage interfaces with grid operators and authorities, and accompany projects from technical specifications to commissioning.
Responsibilities
- Holistic control of all grid connection processes (HV/MV) for PV, wind, and BESS throughout the entire project lifecycle.
- Negotiation and coordination with transmission and distribution system operators (TSO/DSO), authorities, and internal teams (EPC, Development).
- Conducting technical negotiations with grid operators to secure grid connection agreements and permits.
- Creation of technical specifications for high-voltage equipment (e.g., transformers, switchgear, protection technology) and support for procurement in supplier evaluation.
- Review of execution plans, protection concepts, and grid simulation models, including technical construction supervision.
- Coordination of commissioning and certification, and development of innovative approaches to optimize grid connections.
Requirements
- Sound professional experience in managing grid connection processes (high and medium voltage) for renewable energy projects (PV, wind, BESS) and in collaborating with TSO/DSO.
- In-depth knowledge of complex technical and regulatory requirements (e.g., VDE application rules, RfG).
- Strong understanding of high-voltage technology (transformers, switchgear, protection technology), grid simulation models, and protection concepts.
- Excellent interface competence, assertiveness, and negotiation skills in dealing with external and internal partners.
- Very good German and fluent English language skills, both written and spoken.
