About the Role
We are recruiting for a Senior Financial Analyst, Financial Planning & Analysis to join our team in our Toronto office. The successful candidate will own a portfolio of departments end to end — managing, analyzing, evaluating and reporting on their performance — while contributing to the firm-wide budget cycles and the projects that keep improving how Finance works.
Responsibilities
- Plan, budget, and forecast.
- Lead the preparation and consolidation of the annual budget and mid-year forecast cycles, working with departmental leaders to build their submissions from the bottom up.
- Administer the firm's budgeting and forecasting platform through each cycle, including opening and maintaining budget versions, validating submissions and reconciling results.
- Prepare budget analysis and presentation for senior leadership.
- Identify and implement improvements to the budget process, templates and guidelines with each cycle.
- Own the monthly accruals for an assigned portfolio of departments and present line items at the monthly accruals meeting.
- Prepare month-end journal entries, reclassifications and related account reconciliations.
- Manage and analyze monthly payroll reports for headcount and salary reconciliation.
- Prepare monthly deck packages and supporting analysis for senior leadership and Audit Committee.
- Prepare monthly and quarterly variance analysis against budget and prior year for an assigned portfolio of direct and indirect cost centers.
- Investigate month-over-month movements, respond to review questions from Finance leadership and revise analysis through the review cycle.
- Act as a finance business partner to department leaders and functional groups: explain results, challenge assumptions, and help them manage their resources, costs and investments against Budget.
- Provide in-depth ad hoc financial analysis and decision support to stakeholders across the firm.
- Manage and distribute monthly expense reports to business leaders.
- Support the firm's annual professional liability insurance renewal and its interim and international submissions.
- Assist with various finance projects as well partner with other functional groups on projects impacting finance.
- Undertake business process efficiency, reviews and system automation opportunities.
- Undertake other ad-hoc projects as assigned.
Requirements
- A professional accounting designation (CPA) or an equivalent finance qualification.
- Five or more years of relevant finance experience, with experience in financial planning, variance analysis and management reporting.
- Solid month-end close experience, including accruals, journal entries and account reconciliations.
- Expert level knowledge of Microsoft Excel skills, and confidence working with large data sets from multiple source systems.
- Demonstrated experience improving business processes and automating recurring reporting.
- The capacity to handle high-pressure situations, competing priorities and tight deadlines, which is critical during close, forecast and budget cycles.
- Exceptional written and oral communication skills, with the ability to translate financial results into clear commentary for a non-financial audience.
- The ability to interact with all levels of the organization on sensitive and confidential matters in a professional manner.
