About the Role
The incumbent independently provides operational and advanced analytical support in position management, position budgeting, and labor cost distribution. The role supports campus-wide position control processes and payroll-related financial activities to ensure accurate funding, reporting, compliance, and alignment with university policies and objectives. The incumbent provides consultative support to campus stakeholders and contributes to process improvements and system enhancements.
Responsibilities
- Independently assist with position control activities including position setup, funding, and history review.
- Review and analyze complex HRMS/PeopleSoft transactions and recommend appropriate actions.
- Support and advise on transactions such as hires, promotions, and separations.
- Identify, analyze, and resolve funding discrepancies, including root cause analysis.
- Maintain and ensure integrity of position data across systems.
- Develop or recommend improvements to position management processes and procedures.
- Monitor and analyze labor cost distribution transactions.
- Review payroll expense allocations and identify trends, variances, and risks.
- Reconcile payroll costs with budget records and recommend corrective actions.
- Support and prepare complex journal entries related to payroll.
- Consult with and advise departments on payroll, budget planning, and labor cost strategies.
- Analyze budget trends and provide recommendations to support decision-making and resource allocation.
- Review and analyze payroll data and reports for accuracy and compliance.
- Conduct in-depth troubleshooting of payroll distribution errors and system issues.
- Reconcile HRMS & CHRS with financial systems and resolve complex discrepancies.
- Maintain and validate HRMS data tables for labor cost mapping.
- Provide input on system enhancements, testing, and implementation of payroll-related processes.
- Provide consultative guidance to departments on payroll, funding, and budget practices.
- Collaborate with HR, IT, Accounting, and other teams to ensure alignment of budget and payroll processes.
- Respond to and resolve complex inquiries related to payroll and budget.
- Lead or participate in cross-functional projects and initiatives.
- Provide training or lead work direction to staff or departments as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Advanced knowledge of financial, budgetary, and accounting principles and practices.
- Thorough knowledge of the purpose, functions, and fiscal organization of the campus(es).
- Thorough knowledge of the principles of position control and budgetary alignment.
- Advanced knowledge of the principles and practices of public finance, administrative personnel, fiscal management, and cash-flow management.
- Advanced knowledge of research techniques and statistical principles and procedures.
- Knowledge of or ability to quickly learn the financial structure and financial procedures of the university.
- Ability to analyze and review campus budgets and financial practices; present complex budget information in a clear, concise, and professional manner; analyze situations accurately; and develop an effective course of action.
- Advanced analytical skills to evaluate and interpret data and develop sound conclusions and recommendations.
- Advanced communication and interpersonal skills to effectively present information and advise managers, staff, and faculty regarding budgeting policies and procedures.
- Ability to effectively mentor or lead the work of others.
- Extensive use of a personal computer for extended periods of time as a daily information, documentation and correspondence tool.
- Must work with speed and accuracy in fast-paced, heavy workload environment with frequent interruptions.
- Must work well under pressure, meeting deadlines, heavy volumes.
- Lift/carry a laptop, projector and Polycom weighing up to 20+ pounds in support of meetings.
- May need to move bulk-printed materials weighing up to 20+ pounds in support of meetings or events.
- Successful completion of a background check.
- Must be able to provide proof of US Citizenship or authorization to work in the United States, within three business days from their date of hire.

- $5,877.00 to $7,307.00 per month
